Hoop Jam

This summer I've been a regular at the Raleigh Hoop Jam.  The event is organized by my pal Caroleena.  She brings loaner hoops and poi to share.

It starts around 6:30 pm every Wednesday night (weather permitting) and is held at Pullen Park (enter from Ashe Ave and meet across the street from the pool and down the hill from the pavilion).

Drummers are greatly appreciated at this event.  Drummers should bring a chair along with their drums and percussion.  You may want a piece of board to put under your drum so that it's not in the dirt and grass.  Bug spray might be a good idea.  Drinks and munchies to share are great!  Keep in mind that this is not a facilitated drum circle, but rather a gathering of drummers celebrating the dance.  Other suitable instruments are warmly welcomed, too.

This has turned into a truly beautiful event with lots of smiling happy people dancing and hooping and drumming.   Lots of kids and passersby not only stop to spectate, but jump right in and try their hips at hooping, too.
