Our Schedule

OAK CITY DRUMS coordinates community rhythm circles throughout the Triangle area.  The Raleigh Drum Circle provides loaner drums and small percussion items for these events.  Feel free to bring your own hand drums or to borrow one on a first come - first served basis. 


SPECIAL EVENTS COMING UP:

***Beginner's Drum Class!  Four week series begins Thursday, Aug 14, 7-8pm at my home studio in South Raleigh.  Loaner drums available.  Pre-registration required.  Space limited to not more than ten.  $50 for the series.  To register, email greg@oakcitydrums.com 

***Drumming with Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority at NCSU.  In support of pal Scott Swimmer of DrumSTRONG.  Thursday, August 28, 2008.

***Drum Circles at Simpsonville Arts Festival, SC.  Drumming with pal Jana Broder of DrumMagic!   Saturday & Sunday, Labor Day Weekend, 2008.

***West African-Inspired Drum Session with Heartwood Montessori School.  September 11, 2008.

***Drumming at SparkCon 2008.  A weekend-long creativity conference at Moore Square Park.  Drumming early afternoon, September 20, 2008.

***Music Department at UNC-Chapel Hill, Tuesday, July 29, 7-9pm.  Private event for 60 music camp students.

***Drumming at the Raleigh Community Fire and jamming with Rhythmicity, Friday, July 25.

***Free Beginning Beginners Drum Lesson, Wednesday, July 23.  

***Fu Hsing Camp @ Meredith College, Thursday, July 17.  A private performance and rhythm event for 35 kids from Taiwan.

***All Arts & Sciences Camp Parade at NCSU.  June 26, 2008.  This is where it all began for me - watching 300 kids follow a djembe player through campus!  I've been volunteering to lead the parade ever since....

***DrumStrong in Matthews, NC, May 3-4, 2008.  See www.drumstrong.org for details.  This is a fantastic event for a fantastic cause! We averaged 80 drummers for 26 hours of continuous drumming! 

***Drumming for the Hoop Jam at Pullen Park, April 21.  Got a GREAT drum-based chakra alignment from Billy Two Rivers!  This will be a weekly Wednesday evening event - 6:30 to dark!

***Drumming for Spirit Dance at Franklin Street Yoga in Chapel Hill, April 27.  With pal Simon Tisman for this freeform movement and dance activity.

***Junk Music Theme Night at the Lake Johnson Jam celebrating Earth Day, April 21, 2008.

***Raleigh Rocks Half Marathon, Downtown Raleigh, April 5, 2008.  Raleigh Drum Circle supported area runners with impromptu grooves near the finish line! 

*** Attunement Circle, March 13, 2008.  To attune is to harmonize.  Extended grooves and unison rhythms on frame drums.  Guided imagery, Native American flute, Australian didgeridoo and even violin over improvisational small percussion including shakers, bells, chimes, and gongs.  More than 20 people participated and described this event as cleansing, connective, and energizing.  Many thanks to MX and 10KV for lending instruments!

*** Raleigh Drum Circle's 5th Birthday Bash on Monday, Sep 17, 2007.  More than 130 attended the event.  The potluck was fantastic, the entertainers phenomenal, and the didge jam was awesome!

*** Universal Rhythms Workshop at blue lotus yoga, Sep 2, 2007.

*** Drumming with At-Risk Teens at Second Round Youth Center with my pal Ronnie Pulley of Drums on Fire!
